Skin Resurfacing

Dr. Cynthia M. Gregg provides laser skin resurfacing treatments for patients in Cary, Raleigh, and the surrounding areas of North Carolina.

As an alternative to a surgical procedure, Dr. Cynthia Gregg offers her patients the option of skin resurfacing using chemical peels or laser treatments. The CO2 laser is the gold standard laser treatment to resurface facial skin to improve wrinkles and acne scars. However, the traditional CO2 laser treatment can result in a pinkness of the skin that can persist for 2-6 weeks.

A new option that patients of Dr. Gregg have been choosing is DOT therapy, or Dermal Optical Thermolysis. This is a new, improved way to use the CO2 laser wavelength for skin resurfacing with minimal downtime. There are many benefits to this treatment, including:

  • Renewed Skin
  • Smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reducing the appearance of acne and scars
  • Improvement in skin’s texture and firmness
  • Reduction in the appearance of sun damage and aging

This CO2 fractional laser treatment works by using small scanned pulses of laser energy to the target area with a handheld laser. The laser settings are adjusted to suit the optimum results for each patient. During the treatment, there is an immediate tightening of skin and a long term firming effect is seen in the skin since collagen production is stimulated.

The DOT fractional CO2 laser procedure is usually performed using topical anesthetic creams and oral sedation. The recovery period is approximately 5- 7 days after which makeup and sunscreen can be applied.

Because the DOT Laser delivers the desired outcome with minimal downtime, it is rapidly becoming the treatment of choice for Dr. Gregg’s patients to improve the mild to moderate signs of photo-aging.
