This treatment, also known as Collagen induction therapy (CIT), is an aesthetic medical procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with multiple small sterile needles in order to induce production of collagen within the skin. Our master certified staff uses the Skin Pen™ II for this in-office skin rejuvenation treatment. Skin Pen II™ improves fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks and other conditions by stimulating your skin’s own natural ability to repair itself.
How SkinPen® Microneedling Treatments Work
Our bodies have a natural repair and healing process that reacts to injury by producing new collagen and elastin. The SkinPen® initiates this injury response using microneedling – a technique that creates hundreds of temporary micro channels or openings in the skin without any thermal energy or skin removal. These are called fractionated injuries.
Benefits of Microneedling
• The temporary micro channels allow for optimal delivery, penetration and diffusion of topical treatments into the skin
• Quick, safe and effective method to induce production of collagen that is non-ablative (no skin removal), requires no thermal energy and promotes quick, scar-free healing
• Safe for all skin types with no risk of fibrosis
• Comfortable in-office procedure, which is performed after the application of topical anesthetic cream
• No significant downtime
What to Expect After Microneedling Treatments
Patients will experience very mild redness, swelling and tenderness following the procedure. This improves over several days and feels similar to a mild sunburn. There is no significant downtime and patients should have no disruption of normal activities after treatment. Any redness can be concealed with mineral makeup and will disappear within a few days.
A series of three to six treatments is usually necessary to see the full results. Early results may be seen as soon as two months after treatment.
